Summer on the Greenway

The Friends of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway presents a summer of fun in East Boston,  an exciting lineup of music, dance, children’s activities, fitness and so much more.

 “Summer of 2025 on the Greenway is going to be the best yet!  We are thrilled to host a full summer of exciting entertainment for the community!  We have some really great musicians and dancers joining us- there is truly something for everyone in this lineup!

Our newly designed website has more information about our events and programs and can also be translated in 6 languages.. Check it out, invite your friends and neighbors, pack a picnic, and come join us for a summer of fun on the Greenway!  We hope to see you there!”, Said Keeley Fanuele, Executive Director.

The Friends of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway, an organization of residents are active in promoting, enhancing and encouraging use of the beautiful stretch of open space. This year with a new Executive Director and Event Coordinator, Lisa Cappuccio, along with the programming committee have come up with year-long events and activities. Taking advantage of the nicer weather, they have produced an entire summer of events. Thanks to the East Boston Foundation they were able to fund the summer entertainment schedule:

Wood Island Bay Marsh (Overlook)

Join Penpa Tsering for meditative, tranquil, nature driven sounds in the marsh area of the Greenway.

Tibetan artist Penpa Tsering is a master of his native Tibet, playing 16 of Tibet’s traditional musical instruments.

His mother and grandfather taught him to sing traditional Tibetan songs, including the healing songs of his family, who, for generations, have been nomadic farmers.

He toured the world performing Tibetan music.

Primarily self-taught on these instruments, Penpa’s  primary instrument is the flute tyling. 

LOCATION: Wood Island Bay March on the East Boston Greenway Connector. 

Closest entrance is at Constitution Beach in Orient Heights. You may reach this area by entering the Greenway at any location entrances from Jeffries Point to Wood Island via Bremen Street Park.

“We have also lined up an outdoor fitness program with the YMCA. Yoga on Thursday nights from 5:30-6:30 PM. Tai Chi every Saturday from 11:00 PM:12:00PM and Zumba every Monday night from 6:00 – 7:00PM. All classes held at the Bremen Street Amphitheater. We started a Garden Club to clean and maintain the portion of the Greenway by the Caboose, at the Mary Ellen Welch Memorial Garden. Bocce is happening again this year, with games every Sunday afternoons at 4PM beginning June 21st. We celebrate all on the Greenway including our pooch friends with a “Pup Cup Social” at the dog park on June 28th. Added Keely Fanuele, Executive Director.

The Greenway is 3.3 of open paths which runs from Jeffries Point to Constitution Beach. Acres of land which includes, splash pad, play structures, dog park, bike lanes, picnic tables, public restrooms. Conveniently located on the Airport T stop. East Boston  YMCA, East Boston Library and the Excel High School are also located along the Greenway.
