East Boston Jets Open the Season Friday

Game one for the East Boston High School football team is this Friday, September 9 at Sartori Stadium at 6 p.m.  English High School will be the visiting team.   John Parziale begins his seventh season with a record of 37-26.  Last year, the Jets had a respectable season, ending at 7-3.  Senior captains are Jeffrey Benzan who is also quarterback, Joel Pastrana and Waseem Janoudi.  All three join a good group of seniors who have played all four years and want to have successful season.

Missing from the team is assistant coach Ryan Conway.  Last June, he accepted an appointment as headcoach of the English High School football team.  A 1989 graduate of English High, he played for the team.  While a loss to East Boston High, many English High graduates are delighted to have an English High grad return to the school and lead the team.  New to the coaching staff at East Boston is Tyrone Figueroa.  A 2008 graduate of East Boston High, he was a star athlete on the football and basketball team.  A graduate of Framingham State, he is also a member of the faculty at East Boston High.

The Thanksgiving Day game this year is the 99th in the rivalry and should be a competitive clash as new coach of South Boston, Brian Vaughn is leading efforts to revive the team, winless in the past several seasons.
