The ClipArt Gallery, in collaboration with Atlantic Works Gallery (AWG) and curated by AWG member Jean M. Bernstein, presents East Boston Muralists…Reimagined, an exhibition featuring the personal works of renowned muralists Felipe Ortiz and Sophy Tuttle.
The exhibition opened with a lively reception on October 29 that drew a large crowd from the East Boston arts community and beyond. Guests enjoyed drinks and charcuterie while viewing the exhibition, followed by a well-attended artist talk in which Ortiz and Tuttle discussed their creative processes and the relationship between their large-scale murals and their studio practices.
A closing reception will be held on Saturday, April 11 from 6 – 8pm to celebrate the exhibition and the artists. The exhibition remains on view through the closing reception, with gallery hours on Saturdays from 12–4 p.m. or by appointment.
During the pandemic, Ortiz and Tuttle were among the artists selected to create murals across East Boston inspired by themes of nature and the environment. Led by HarborArts in partnership with Sea Walls and the PangeaSeed Foundation, the initiative resulted in more than 20 murals throughout the neighborhood.
While widely recognized for their monumental public artworks, East Boston Muralists…Reimagined highlights the artists’ more personal studio practices. The exhibition features original works and framed prints that reveal the same energy, detail, and vibrance that characterize their murals.
Located along East Boston’s harbor-front in the Clippership Wharf community, The ClipArt Gallery hosts semi-annual exhibitions curated by artists from nearby Atlantic Works Gallery at 80 Border Street. Founded in 2003, Atlantic Works Gallery is a collaborative artist space dedicated to supporting its members and fostering the exchange of art and ideas.
