COLETTA ZAPATA ORGANIZES TRASH CLEAN UP

On Wednesday, March 11, Boston City Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata hosted a trash cleanup in partnership with Eastie Clean & Green with over a dozen volunteers attending. Representative Adrian Madaro and staff from Senator Lydia Edwards’ office were also in attendance and supported the cleanup efforts. With the snow melting after recent storms and warmer weather arriving, accumulated trash has become more visible across neighborhood streets and public spaces. In response, Councilor Coletta Zapata organized the cleanup to help remove litter and keep East Boston’s streets clean.

“Team Eastie Clean and Green was out in full force! Trash accumulated during the recent snowstorms, but the community showed up without hesitation to help clean our streets. I’m incredibly proud of my neighbors and grateful for their dedication to keeping East Boston beautiful,” said Councilor Coletta Zapata. “While community cleanups are not a long-term solution, they play an important role in encouraging neighbors to take active stewardship of their streets and public spaces while fostering community pride. I will continue pursuing longer-term solutions, including efforts to revive the Red Shirts program and advocating for additional resources through the City’s upcoming budget process to help keep our streets clean. Thank you to Civic Organizing for providing the materials to make this effort possible.”

Boston residents can also organize their own neighborhood cleanups through the Office of Civic Organizing’s Boston Neighborhood Clean-Up Initiative. The program provides volunteers with the tools and support needed to conduct safe and effective cleanups.
