Lefthander Steve Chiappa pitched the Jets to a 13-4 win over Madison Park Vocational High School to lead East Boston to victory in the Strike Out Colon Cancer Tournament Sunday at Memorial Park.  The Jets advanced to the final after Cathedral forfeited Saturday’s preliminary round game.  The wins capped a five-game win streak that keeps the Jets’ hopes alive for MIAA Division 4 post-season play as the season enters its final games this week.

East Boston has hosted the Strike Out Colon Cancer Tournament since 2009 after Carrie Brangiforte, wife of East Boston Headmaster Phil Brangiforte, battled cancer after the birth of the couple’s daughter Alexandria.  Grateful for the expert care that Carrie received at Boston Medical Center, the couple established the baseball tournament to raise awareness and donations in the battle against colon cancer.
