James Beresford, Jr.
March 27, 1953 – January 7, 2025
James W. Beresford, Jr., 71, of Plainville passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Born in Revere on March 27, 1953, he was the son of the late James W. Sr., and Marguerite (O’Brien) Beresford.
James spent his childhood in East Boston with his parents and two sisters, Sandy and Patty. He was a graduate of East Boston High School Class of 1970. He also learned automotive training from the former ITT Technical Institute.
He was employed by Checker Motors up until 1988 and YCN – Yellow Cab of Norwood from 1988 to 2014.
James loved to tinker with antique objects and motors. If something was broken, he’d find a way to fix it. He was a collector of model trains and model NASCAR vehicles and a member of Train Collectors Association. He also enjoyed teaching kids about model trains. He adored traveling to New Hampshire for NASCAR races and traveling with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed boating.
James is survived by a large loving family and would have wanted to acknowledge the loving care provided by his partner of 25 years, Mindy Hanlin.
The family would like to thank VNA Care staff, Kate and Marion for the loving care they provided over the past three months.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 17 at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral home service will immediately follow at 5:30 p.m. Burial will take place privately at a later date.

Peter Salerno
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him
Peter P. Salerno, 91, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 14, 1933 to Americo Salerno and Mary (O’Brien) Salerno, Peter grew up with strong family values and a determined spirit that would guide him throughout his life.
Peter was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Granese) Salerno, with whom he shared 43 cherished years. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. He was the devoted father of Mary R. Salerno, Patricia Grifoni and her husband, Donald of East Boston, and Christine Nano and her husband, Bobby of Saugus. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Salerno, whose memory he held dear. Peter was a proud grandfather to Anthony Salerno and his partner, Thyia, Charles Nano and his partner, Lauren, Donald Grifoni Jr. and his wife, Scout and Vanessa Grifoni. He was also the adoring great-grandfather of Donald “Trey” Grifoni III, who brought him immense joy in his later years. He was a cherished brother-in-law to the late Roderick Granese and his surviving wife, Bernice of Londonderry, NH. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Peter honorably served during the Korean Conflict, exemplifying bravery and dedication to his country. Following his service, he began a 26-year career as a ramp agent with Delta Airlines, where he was known for his hard work and camaraderie with colleagues.
Peter had a lifelong passion for thoroughbred horse racing and spent many happy days enjoying the sport, whether cheering on a favorite horse or sharing stories at the track. His enthusiasm was infectious and his knowledge of the sport was admired by friends and family alike.
Peter’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His love for his family, dedication to his work, and unwavering sense of humor and kindness will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will honor Peter’s life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, East Boston, on Friday, January 17th from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a prayer service in our serenity chapel. Services will conclude with Peter being laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, in Malden with his beloved wife Mary. May they rest in peace.
