US Rowing just named Samuel Sullivan of East Boston as the Under 23 National Team Male Athlete of the Year. He will be presented the award in a ceremony at the Head of the Charles on October 19, just down the river from the Boston Latin School Boathouse where he rowed in high school. He’ll compete in the HOCR on October 20th for his current school, the University of Pennsylvania. This past August he represented the United States at the World Rowing Championship.
He sat stroke seat of the US Men’s 8 and won silver. Earlier in September he stroked the American team that took gold in the Ergo competition at the SH Netz Cup in Germany. He’s a two time first team All American, two time winner of Penn’s Outstanding Oarsman award, and an Academic All Ivy.
Last spring he led the University of Pennsylvania to their best result in a generation at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association’s National Championship. He is currently the second fastest rower in Penn boathouse history. He is enrolled in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Penn with an expected graduation date of May 2025. His concentration is in Fluid Dynamics, with minors in both Computer Science and Math.
