East Boston Social Centers’ Every Child Shines initiative to hold community convening July 23

The Every Child Shines initiative is hosting their third annual community convening on Tuesday, July 23, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 100 Boardman St. in East Boston, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This event focuses on how East Boston can best prepare ALL of our neighborhood children for kindergarten. The day will include breakout groups on supporting young children’s social emotional development, brainstorming for a Community Hub, and how to collaborate across organizations, family-based care centers, and the Boston Public Schools. This is a unique opportunity where a cross-sector group of over 25 entities including Center-Based and Family Child Care Providers, The Boston Public Schools, NeighborHealth (formerly East Boston Neighborhood Health Center), The Basics, Early Intervention, Families First, Union Capital, and Friends of Boston collaboratively towards this long-term vision for Kindergarten readiness.

Every Child Shines is an initiative of the East Boston Social Centers with the long term goal of establishing an ecosystem where all children enter kindergarten joyful, thriving, and ready to learn. These annual Community Convenings offer an opportunity to pull in perspectives and ideas from across sectors which is critical to making this long-term vision a reality. By coming together in person and meeting with different attendees in structured breakout groups throughout the day, participants get to know what services each other specializes in, relate over shared challenges and ideas, and ultimately improve our collective ability to connect families to useful resources.

The East Boston Social Centers, a multi-service agency and community center that cultivates community, belonging, and joy, has been in the business of changing lives for 106 years, providing East Boston (and Chelsea, Winthrop and Revere) residents with critical high-quality services that support community health, well-being, and joy. As reflected in its motto, “When all give, all gain,” the Social Centers seek to create a welcoming and supportive environment, characterized by a spirit of goodwill and caring, in which members of the community are empowered to lead productive and fulfilling lives.
