Elizabeth Fiorentini

Generous To a Fault to Anyone in Need, She Lived a Long and Remarkable Life

Elizabeth (Puopolo) Fiorentini of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, passed away on June 2 shortly before her 100th birthday.

Elizabeth lived a long and remarkable life and was truly beloved by all who knew her. She was generous to a fault to anyone in need. She found joy in hosting her loved ones in the sunlit kitchen of her Bennington Street home before moving to Winthrop where she enjoyed many happy days at the Parc at Harbor View Senior Living. Many of the best memories in Betty’s life were made at the family lake house in Amherst, New Hampshire, where she relished in watching her loved ones share the summer months together on Baboosic Lake. In the year that preceded her passing, Elizabeth and her family were miraculously returned the remains of her long lost brother Cpl. Joseph J. Puopolo, a Korean War POW.

Born in East Boston, the cherished daughter of the late Alessio and Anna Puopolo, Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Eugene A. Fiorentini, the devoted mother of Roseanne Graham and her husband, Alan, Jean Lewis and her husband, Arthur, all of Winthrop and her late cherished son Joseph Fiorentini. She was the adored grandmother of Gina DeNunzio of Winthrop, Mia Lombardi of Melrose, Richard Graham and Alan Graham II, both of Needham and the loving great-grandmother of Francesca and Gabriela DeNunzio of Winthrop, Avery Swinton of Melrose and Charles, William, Elizabeth, Desmond, Fiona and

Imogen Graham, all of Needham; the dear sister of the late Corporal Joseph J. Puopolo, Mary Mosca, Rose Vecchia, Emilio Puopolo and Nicholas Puopolo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Pace Program, The Parc at Harbor View Senior Living and Hospice Care Dimensions for the care they provided.

At the request of the family, Elizabeth’s funeral service will be private. Funeral arrangements  by Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. Winthrop.

Anthony “Desi” DeSimone

Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather

Anthony  J. “Desi” DeSimone, 81, of North Reading and formerly of East Boston, passed away on Saturday, June 3 at Winchester Hospital.

Born in Winthrop on April 26, 1942, the son of the late Fiore and Concetta (Presutti) DeSimone, he was raised and attended school in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School. He later attended Wentworth Institute.

Desi worked as a Ground Agent for Massport for many years and was a member of Local 25. He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 56 years and a member of St. Theresa’s Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 4544 for many years.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and had a love for horror movies. He had a great love for his family, a kind nature and always had a positive attitude. He loved to dance, loved animals, woodworking, food and his greatest pleasure was cooking for his family. He attended many Karate Tournaments with his daughter Kristen. He was a mentor to his grandson, enjoying fishing and sports tournaments.

Family members include his loving wife of 56 years, Cecelia (DiPasquale) DeSimone; his daughter, Kristen Juliano; his grandson, Anthony Juliano; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Mazzarini and her late husband, Louis Mazzarini.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 10 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street, North Reading. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. Joseph DeSantis

Led the Revere/Everett/Malden Youth Hockey Program for 27 Years

Our beloved father, Joseph A. DeSantis, 67, of Revere, passed away peacefully in his home on June 2 surrounded by family and friends.

Joe dedicated 27 years of his life to leading the Revere/Everett/Malden Youth Hockey program, where he would help form the bonds between countless boys and girls. Many of those players are now giving back to the city of Revere, serving on the Revere Fire and Police Department.

Joe also spent 40 years in office supply sales, where during the majority of those years, he would accomplish being #1 in the country for his international company Kyocera Document Solutions/ Duplitron.

Joe lived his life in kindness and service to every person he encountered and will be missed immensely.

Born in Boston on September 4, 1955 to Joseph A. DeSantis Sr. and the late Frances DePaolo DeSantis, he was the adored father of Joey DeSantis and his wife, Erin DeSantis, Jack DeSantis and his fiancé, Gennara Romano, Jenae DeSantis and Joe’s beloved longtime companion, Africa Graham.

He is survived by his dear sister, Janice DeSantis of Chelsea and he was the brother of the late brother, James DeSantis and his niece Rachael DeSantis. He was the cherished grandfather to Lola, Francesca and Alessi DeSantis. He is also survived by his friend and mother of his children, Donna DeSantis, and her longtime companion, Eric Cardone.

The family would also like to acknowledge Joe’s loving care team and close friends who never left his side, Steven Schepici, Bobby Venezia, Brian Aucella and Trisha and Robert Romano.

His Funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St, Revere today, Wednesday, June 7 at 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Revere at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
