Here Comes the Eastie Parent Champions

Eleven parents from East Boston recently completed training to become Parent Champions for an initiative involving the East Boston Social Center (EBSOC), East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and other local organizations to promote family wellness and kindergarten readiness.

The initiative, entitled Every Child Ready, is working with The Basics, a Boston based non-profit, to promote awareness among parents with infants and toddlers about effective strategies for early learning.  Justin Pasquariello, Executive Director of the EBSOC, which helped establish the initiative said, “Too many families lack access to quality resources that can ensure children reach their full potential during the first years of life.”

Ron Ferguson, founder of The Basics and faculty member at Harvard University said, “We’re delighted to work with Justin, Manny Lopes at the health center, Tommy Welch, Superintendent of East Boston Elementary Schools, and others, in using The Basics to raise awareness about the great opportunity for brain development before a child’s third birthday.”

Parent Champions will work through Every Child Ready organizations to teach other parents about healthy early learning practices.  One of the principles of The Basics is to Maximize Love and Manage Stress.  Parent Champion Souad Hajjni said that, “it is what we need most, especially during the stressful life that all families have now.”
