Suzanne Deedy

Retired Nurse at former Winthrop Hospital

Suzanne P. (Hart)  Deedy of East Boston passed away on March 20 at the age of 83.

Born in Chelsea to Helen (Sullivan) and Peter J. Hart, she spent her formative years in East Boston and most of her adult years in Winthrop. She was the loving wife of Thomas R. Deedy, mother of Kerin Green, Sue Ellen Briggs, Thomas E. Deedy, Conal Deedy, and Jane Deedy as well as the devoted sister of Peter J. Hart and Kathleen Kane and sister in law of Patricia Hart.

She was a bright student and obtained a full scholarship to attend Emmanuel College where she graduated with a business degree in 1958. Like many of her generation, she married, had children, and devoted decades to loving, nurturing, and raising her brood. Her family was her priority.

She started a second career by becoming a nurse and enjoyed working at Winthrop Hospital until it closed in 1992.

She loved to travel and instilled that love in her children. She had the chance to visit Australia, Alaska, London, Moscow, Sweden, Paris and many other destinations. When she wasn’t traveling, she hosted many exchange students from France, Germany and Japan. She loved the ocean and spending countless days on the water or at Cottage Park Yacht Club.

She also loved a bargain and tried to never miss a yard sale, flea market, or trip to Savers. Her inquisitiveness and curiosity led her to stay informed by reading and watching the news.

She was loved by all who knew her including her nine grandchildren: Patrick Deedy, Priscilla Briggs, Nicholas Briggs, Madeline Green, Michael Deedy, Trevor Deedy, Quinn Deedy, Annika Deedy, Matthew Deedy and her many nieces and nephews. She will be missed.

A funeral service will be held at a later date.

Donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.  Sue would also ask that you be kind to one another and help your neighbor.
