Boston Ward 1 Republican Committee

East Boston Republicans will meet Tuesday evening, June 12, at Jeveli’s Restaurant at 6:00 p.m.  At the meeting the discussion will include the Massachusetts Republican Convention held in Worcester April 28, and preparations for the 2018 electoral campaigns.  Registered Republicans and unenrolled voters are cordially invited to attend.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Social Centers Senior Lunch

If you are age 65+, The East Boston Social Centers at 68 Central Square in East Boston has a table and a meal waiting for you.  The Senior Lunch Program Sponsored by Kit Clark Senior Services provides a hot, nutritious lunch along with wonderful socialization Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  A suggested donation of $2 is asked.

 

PARKARTS WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS RETURN IN JUNE

Budding artists ages nine and up are invited to join the Boston Parks and Recreation Department for its popular summer series of ParkARTS Watercolor Painting Workshops during the month of June at six Boston locations.  The series of free workshops is just one of the many offerings of the annual ParkARTS program sponsored by Holly and David Bruce.

The workshops welcome artists of all skill levels to create their own greenspace-inspired masterpieces with instruction and materials provided. Juleen Jones returns as this summer’s featured instructor. Ms. Jones has a BFA in Fine Art from Montserrat College of Art as well as a custom painting business called The Artist Touch where she transforms rooms with faux and specialty painting, murals, hand painted furniture, refinishing, and more.

All classes are held from noon to 2 p.m. weather permitting. Dates and locations for the workshops are as follows:

Sacred Heart Parish St. Anthony Spaghetti dinner

Sacred Heart Parish invites you to its annual St. Anthony Spaghetti dinner on Tuesday, June 12. Dinner is served from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. and is followed by a special Mass in honor of St. Anthony at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Dr. Regina Marchi to discuss book

St Lazarus Bowling League Foxwoods trip

The Joe Guarino/ St Lazarus Bowling League is having a day trip to Foxwoods on Sunday, June 24.

The buses leave at 7:45 a.m. from St. Lazarus Church on Ashley Street East Boston.

The cost is $28 per person which includes a $10 food coupon and $10 in slot play.

The purpose of the East Boston Tech Meetup is to build a community of people currently working in tech or those aspiring to move into a tech career who live or work in East Boston. These meetings will be held in the heart of Maverick Landing conveniently located steps from the Maverick T station, in the Maverick Landing Meeting House at 31 Liverpool Street.

 

Boston Public Library’s free homework help underway

Boston Public Library’s free Homework Help program began and runs through May 24, 2018, offering free afterschool help and mentorship provided by high-achieving high school students at most BPL locations across the city. The program, offered Monday through Thursday from 3:30 -5:30 p.m. is open to students in grades K-8; no registration required. Boston Teacher’s Union (BTU) tutors are also available during select weekdays from 4-6 p.m. for students in Grades K-12. Visit www.bpl.org/homework for complete information. Most homework help mentors and program participants are Boston Public Schools students, though it is open to all, and BTU tutors are either current or retired Boston Public Schools teachers.

 

Tech goes home

Tech Goes Home is a computer based program with the goal of ensure that all low-come residents of Greater Boston are equipped with the tools, training, and access to support 21st-century skills development. The TGH program offers resident the ability to improve their quality of life as new member of the online community.

The class will be held at Robert DeLeo Senior Center, 35 Harvard St., Winthrop  for residents age 55 and above.

PARKS DEPARTMENT OFFERS FREE SUMMER SPORTS CENTERS FOR    AGES 7 TO 14

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department announces the return of free youth Sports Centers at White Stadium in Franklin Park, M Street Park in South Boston, and East Boston Stadium featuring professional instruction in a number of popular sports from July 9 to August 17.

The Sports Centers are offered free of charge to Boston residents and open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14.  The program offers progressive skill development to city youth in July and August.

The East Boston Summer Recreation and Sports Center at East Boston Memorial Park is a full day drop-in program for Boston residents ages 7 to14.  Children may participate in a number of supervised activities including sports, games, and arts and crafts.  The program runs Monday through Friday from July 9 to August 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Pre-registration is recommended and space is limited.  For more information, please call (617) 961-3085 or email [email protected].

The South Boston Summer Sports Center at M Street Park is a full day drop-in program for Boston residents ages 7 to 14.  The program runs Monday through Friday from July 9 to August 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Children can participate in many traditional and non-traditional recreation activities.  Parents may register their children for one day, a week, or the entire summer. The White Stadium Sports Center in Franklin Park will feature several sports Tuesday through Friday from July 10 to August 17, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with participants choosing a favorite to take part in each week.  The sports offered throughout the program include volleyball, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, Double Dutch, track and field, football, soccer, and baseball/softball.

The White Stadium Sports Center also hosts Monday workshops from July 16 to August 13 offering boys and girls the opportunity to participate in a five-week reading, writing, and math enrichment program.  Pre-registration is required and space is limited.  For more information on all White Stadium Sports Center programs, please call (617) 961-3092 or email [email protected].
