The East Boston High School boys track team bested 13 other teams to take first place in the Boston City Championships at White Stadium.

Coach John Parziale’s Jets scored 124 points to handily outdistance second-place finisher Latin Academy who had 81 points.

“We placed in just about every event,” said Parziale. “I’m very proud of this team. They really worked hard at it. They’re a great group of kids.”

The Jets entered the meet with a perfect 6-0 record and the Boston City North League title in their possession.

Senior captain Joel Pastrana paced the Jets with first-place finishes in the long jump and the triple jump and a third in the 400-meter run. Pastrana, who was the Jets’ leading scorer with 26 points in the meet, was also fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump at the Division 2 State Meet at Greater New Bedford Vocational.

Elvin Navarro raced to two first-place finishes in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. Nick Shea won the discus event and took second place in the Division 2 State Meet.

Marcus Heard was third in the 200 meters at the City Meet and seventh in the Division 2 State Meet. Senior captain Micah Huntley was second in the mile and fourth in the 400 meters.

Parziale lauded assistant coach Jocelyn Kane, who worked with the long distance runners during the season.
