Lynn Man Held on Bail in New Year’s Day Death

A Lynn man was arraigned Tuesday for allegedly running over and killing another man on Saratoga Street early New Year’s morning.

Christopher Nalchajian, 33, of Lynn was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident causing Death/Personal Injury, and Vehicular Homicide. Nalchajian was held on $20,000 cash bail by Judge John E. McDonald. Assistant District Attorney Masai King recommended $30,000.

Should Nalchajian post bail he must not drive or use drugs or alcohol as a condition of his release.

At 6 a.m. on Sunday, January 1 officers from District A-7 responded to a call for a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 220 Saratoga Street.

Once officers arrived they observed a male victim had been struck by a motor vehicle. According to reports Nalchajian hit the victim and then allegedly dragged him nearly a block before trying to flee on foot.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been established, though investigators are still attempting to do so according to Jake Wark from the District Attorney’s Office.

The Boston Police Department is actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470.
