Leon DeRosa, Sr.

40 Year member of Revere Elks

Leon DeRosa, Sr. of East Boston, formerly of Revere, died on June 12.

Leon loved his family very much and relished the time spent together.  He enjoyed visiting hobby shops and had a collection of model trains.  Leon was an avid sports fan with hockey being his favorite.  He was a member of the Elks in Revere for over 40 years and sang in the church choir.  He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

The beloved son of the late Nicholas and Ida (Lamonte), he was the loving husband of 34 years to Lucille (DiPasquale), cherished father of Leon DeRosa Jr. and his companion, Natalie Marcil of Fitchburg and Melinda Kendall and her companion, Timothy Buckley of Leominster;  beloved brother of Joseph DeRosa of Lowell, and the late Nicholas and Robert DeRosa; adoring grandfather of Carissa, Michayla, Jessica, and Chase.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Julie Longfield

Award winning federal employee

Julie Longfield,  a long-time resident of both Revere and East Boston, died Saturday, June 11 at the Massachusetts General Hospital following a sudden stroke. She was 66 years old.

Born on Dec.16, 1949, Julie graduated as a National Honor Society student from East Boston High School in 1967. She continued her education in Travel and Tourism and successfully completed additional certified administrative and business training courses.

Julie was formerly employed by First National Bank of Boston and as a clerk at Home Insurance Company. In an employment shift, she accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services at the JFK Federal Building in Boston. In her current assignment, she was a Management and Program Specialist. Julie directly reported to the Associate Regional Administrator for Medicare Health Plans Operations and was a key member of his staff. Julie was a dedicated federal employee and well-respected in the workplace for over twenty-five years. Among her many awards was the Boston Federal Executive Board’s Excellence in Government Award (administrative category.) Her dedication to her profession, her colleagues and the public she so aptly served, was unwavering.

Julie enjoyed dining out, leisure travel in the U.S., doo-op music and visiting with her niece and nephews, who brought great joy to her in later years.

She is survived by her mother and father, Anne and Wilbert Longfield of Cambridge; her sister and brother-in-law, Diane and John Totten of Waltham; her brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Susie Longfield with their children, Kate, Tim and Matt of Cambridge; her aunt, Eileen Longfield of California and numerous cousins throughout the United States.

The family will receive those wishing to pay their respects at Vazza Funeral Home, 262 Beach Street, Revere, today, Wednesday, June 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. On Thursday, June 16 at 9 a.m., Julie’s family and friends will gather again at the funeral home for final prayers before proceeding to 10 a.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Revere. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Raffaele DiChiara

Of Medford, formerly of East Boston

Raffaele DiChiara of Medford, formerly of East Boston, passed away on June 9. He was 85 years old.

The cherished son of the late Antonio and Giovanna (Ferriero) DiChiara, he was the beloved husband of Rosa (Capasso) DiChiara; loving father of the late Anthony J. DiChiara and his surviving wife, Cathy; adored grandfather of Anthony R. DiChiara and Christina Walsh; great-grandfather of Daniela Walsh; caring brother of Giovanna, Amelia, Elena, Concetta and the late Sabato, Mario and Guirino DiChiara and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Attorney Vincent J. Zullo Of Bradford formerly of East Boston on June 13th. Beloved husband of Jo-Anne (Coar) Zullo. Loving and dedicated father of Zachary V. and Joelle C. Zullo. Loving son of Loretta (Caruana) Zullo and the late Jerry and beloved son-in-law of Marie L. Coar. He is survived by his devoted sister Donna Marquardo and her husband Richard and brother Jerry Zullo Jr. and his husband Wayne Michalski as well as the late Michael Zullo. Patricia M. (Fay) LePage died in East Boston on June 11.

The beloved wife of Les LePage, she was the mother of Dayna Fay and Amanda and Carolann LePage; grandmother of Michael, Andrew, Hailey, Amayah, Sofia and Mia; sister of Michelle Harrison, Jody Bastine and Karen Fay and is also survived by 10 nieces and 10 nephews.

Visiting hours in the Magrath Funeral Home, 325 Chelsea Street {at Day Square} East Boston will be held on Thursday, June 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited.  A Prayer Service will begin at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Barbara Nese

Of East Boston, formerly of Italy

Barbara Nese of East Boston, formerly of Italy, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 9.

She was the beloved wife of the late Sabato Nese; devoted mother of Dominic and his wife, Paula of Revere, and Rosa Nese of East Boston; adored grandmother of Alexandra Nese of Revere; dear sister of Antoinette Passaro and her late husband, William of Winthrop, Elizabeth Marano and her husband, Pasquale of Somerville, Nicholas Cinelli of Florida and the late Carmella Migliore and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and her special canine companion, “Chief” as well as her brother in law, Michele Nese and all of the Nese’s family and friends of Ogliastro Cilento, Salerno, Italy.

Eric Roger Martorano

Eric Roger Martorano of East Boston died unexpectedly on June 7 at the age of 29.

He was the loving son of Armeda (Espedellia) and the late Michael Martorano of East Boston; beloved grandson of Christine (DiSilvestro) and the late Roger Martorano of East Boston; dear brother of Jonathan Martorano and his wife, Jessica of New Hampshire and   Christine Coughlin and her husband, Christopher of East Boston. He is also survived by many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins.

Fred J. “Sibby” Girolamo, 88, of Peabody, formerly of Revere, and East Boston, June 7, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Theresa (Vigliotta) Girolamo. Loving father of Janis Merchant, Fred E. Girolamo and his wife Michelle all of Peabody and the late Gary Girolamo. Cherished grandfather of Renee Merchant, Gary and Stephen Girolamo and the late Danielle Linn – Merchant.
