The East Boston High football season gets underway this week. The Jets will travel over to Jamaica Plain and clash with English High at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. Practice began on August 24 with a good turnout of new and returning players. Thus far, two have been designated captains: Edwin Munguia and Jack Hartnett. John Parziale begins his sixth season as headcoach with a record of 30-23. For many years, he was top assistant to John Souza
Last March, the MIAA approved a plan to extend a new football play-off system for a third year. Schedules are set for September and October. Games in November will be determined by a point system in which EMass and CMass schools will be split into two groups: play-off teams and non-qualifiers. The goal of the new system, begun in 2013, is to increase the number of play-off teams and lower the number of superbowls. Last October 31, a 24-20 loss to Lowell Catholic in the quarterfinal round ended the Jets chance to advance for a superbowl appearance. The season ended with a Thanksgiving Day win over South Boston by a score of 24-6 and season record of 6-5. All are welcome to come out and support the team at the home games at Sartori Stadium.
