The quest for the John Parziale Memorial Trophy is on. Heading into Tuesday night, it wasn’t really clear how the 1st game of the 2015 EBMHL Playoffs was going to play out for the Mosca Squad, after struggling all season long and finishing in last place. Moments after the puck dropped, it became very clear. Mosca came out bombing. Flying around like the Russian Red Army vs. a shell shocked Preston Properties squad. It was Andrew MacCormack who got the ball rolling early for Mosca with a nifty little goal past goalie Brad Watkins, his first of two on the night. Not long after, Fernando Fernandez waltzed in from the blue line and ripped one past Watkins to give Mosca the 2 goal lead.
From that point on Mosca never looked back, as goaltender Mario Long stood on his head all game long, closing the door on Preston, for a 5-0 shutout win, advancing them to the semifinals vs. the 1st Place finishing JC Detailing. Also hitting the scoresheet were Ryan Moran and Dominic DiMarzo who had a solo tally a piece.
In the other Quarterfinal matchup, we saw Milano’s Deli take on a hapless Team Carlo Basile, who just couldn’t come together. Team Basile came into the game battling some numbers issues and continued on with that battle last Tuesday evening, but came into the game ready to go. Milano’s got rolling early on a beautiful tally from Captain Peter Hanlon, his first of three on the evening, followed up by a Nicky Clewer rip past goalie George Barker. To add insult to injury, Basile Captain David Berardinelli was skating in on goalie Tony Deandrea when he took a spill and dislocated his shoulder and was forced to leave the game. A rough outing and ending for the boys of Team Basile. The other Milano’s goal was scored by Matt Fraser. Milano’s advances on to face 2nd place finishing East Boston Yacht Club.
