Marty Walsh Elected as New Mayor of Boston

Marty Walsh was elected the new Mayor of Boston Tuesday night. Citywide Walsh

received 72514 votes to Connolly’s 67606 votes.

In East Boston the trend was the same with Eastie voters backing Walsh over Connolly

for mayor despite the political backing of Representative Carlo Basile and City Councilor

Sal LaMattina. Senator Anthony Petruccelli was the sole Eastie pol to back Walsh.

Walsh will become only the fourth Mayor of Boston in nearly half a century and replace

Boston’s longest serving Mayor, Thomas Menino, in January.

At his victory party he said he would work for opportunity, “because every woman,

man and child deserves a chance; community — because that’s the strength of this city;

equality —because everybody gets ahead, not just some.”
