MEB Hockey Roundup

Malden/East Boston hockey skates through another great week of games.

Mite K(5-8 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 5, Dorchester 0

The Mite K team skated to a strong 5-0 victory in the Boston Mayor’s Cup Championship at Boston College Sunday morning. For the 4th straight tournament game Chris Hanifan posted the shutout. Jake Simpson had a hat trick, Ryan Thomas and Will Fosdick added the other two goals. Cristian Monge and John Summers led the team on defense, not allowing much pressure in the M.E.B. end of the ice. Strong two way play from Chris Cecca, Chad Robertson, Lucas Deguire, and Joe Hurley also contributed to the championship. It was the second consecutive Mayor’s Cup Championship for the Mites.

Malden/East Boston 11, Lynnfield-Saugus 10

A very tired Mite K team skated to an 11-10 victory over Lynnfield-Saugus. A whopping 8 goals from Jake Simpson, 2 from Chris Cecca, and 1 from Will Fosdick rounded out the scoring. An unbelievable goaltending job done by Ryan Thomas, including a beautiful glove save late in the game.

SQUIRT(9-10 Years Old)

PEEWEE(11-12 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 1, Hyde Park 5

The M.E.B. Peewee’s struggle to find goals as the season heats up. After going down 0-2 in the 1st period, John Bernbaum stretched one across the ice to make it 1-2. Great defense from Sam Fosdick and Jeff Melanson as this game was a shooting match. Hyde Park had the hot goalie whose glove seemed to have a puck magnet in it. M.E.B. netmider Anthony Bocchino played solid between the pipes but it wasn’t enough. After 2 periods it was 1-5 and that’s the way it stayed.

BANTAM AAA(13-14 Years Old)

Malden/East Boston 3,Lynn 1

The M.E.B. Bantam AAA’s took on the Lynn Jets and with M.E.B. missing 3 players the game was a well matched battle of back and forth action with great goaltending on both ends including a penalty shot awarded to the Jets. Mustang net minder Anthony Giuliano kept the score board blank on the bid. In the 2nd Lynn went up 0-1 beating Giuliano, who had little chance. With the 3rd period under way M.E.B. continued to work hard and at the 5 minute mark, Mike Defilippo parked out front jumped on a James Pandolfo rebound to tie the game up. 2 minutes later, Defilippo moved back into his parking spot in the slot and once again pounced on a rebound putting M.E.B. up a goal. With the final minutes ticking away, Lynn pulled their goalie to give them the extra skater. M.E.B. held on tight and finished with a Nick Miller long shot into the empty twine, a buzzer beater with 1 second left to ice it at a 3-1

M.E.B. came out with a presence, dominating the ice scoring 6 goals by the end of the 1st period. Mark Faia had a natural hat trick; the third goal coming in the last few seconds of the 1st, with two of the goals assisted Zach Sheehey. By the start of the 2nd period it was running time and remained 6-0. M.E.B. dominated the ice throughout and continued to hustle and line up hungry for more goals. Although not really tested, goalie Calvin Taddeo did make good decisions when needed. Another shining player of the evening was Cam Koizumi who picked up a couple of goals, including the power play goal in the last 2 minutes of the game.
