Simpson is Kiwanian of the Year

The East Boston Kiwanis Club has named Carol Simpson, a longtime community volunteer and employee of East Boston Savings Bank, the 2013 Kiwanian of the Year.

Simpson, former treasurer of the Kiwanis who now serves as a board member, will be honored at a special celebration on Friday, September 20 at Spinelli’s Function Facility in Day Square.

“Carol (Simpson) has been a vital member of the East Boston Kiwanis Club, serving as club treasurer for many years and now being a member of the board,” said Kiwanis Club President Ed Coletta. “She has committed her time and energy to making life better for children and those in need both here in East Boston and around the world. She is very deserving of this special recognition.”

Simpson is currently a member of the Kiwanis Club board of directors, a past club treasurer, and a member of numerous community service project committees, such as the Bicycle Safety Rodeo, the Belle Isle Marsh Cleanup, and many event planning committees. She is a long-time official at the East Boston Savings Bank where she serves as Vice President of Retail Banking.

“Carol Simpson has done a remarkable job in   the growth of East Boston Savings Bank,” said EBSB Chairman and CEO Richard Gavegnano. “Most important her extra effort and hard work in helping the customers, training the staff, and making a difference in practicing real community banking. I am very   proud of her receiving this honor.”

Tickets to the Kiwanian of the Year celebration are $50, and feature a plated Prime Rib dinner. Tables of 10 can be reserved for $500. Club membership is also publishing a commemorative souvenir program and advertising booklet for this special occasion. The booklet will be distributed at the dinner and throughout the East Boston community.
