The East Boston High School football team beat their archrivals, South Boston 12-6 Thanksgiving Day to capture the Boston North Division title. The Jets will face a much-anticipated rematch against Blue Hills for the Division 4A playoff game this week.
The game was dominated by the speed of Eastie’s Jimenez-Fox who rushed for 106 yards on 13 carries while Andre Rickerson for into the end zone twice for the Jets for the team’s only two touchdowns.
The game was a bit messy and there was not a lot of offense in the first quarter due to the heavy rains the previous night that left the field a mud.
After a scoreless first, Eastie struck first with a 51-yard run by Jimenez-Fox that took the Jets down to the 14-yard line.
Rickerson then went in from 2 yards out two plays later to give Eastie a 6-0 lead before the half.
The Jets then struck again in their first drive in the second half. Following a facemask penalty it was first and goal from Southie’s 17. Jimenez-Fox caught a 10-yard pass that was followed by a 7-yard touchdown run by Rickerson to make it 12-0.
The Knights had not scored for the first three quarters of the game and were nearly shutout by Eastie until Southie defensive back Pannell stripped the ball from Jimenez-Fox and sprinted 10-yards into the end zone to make it 12-6 with 1:42 left in the game.
Eastie recovered Southie’s onside kick on the next play and were able to let time run out.
