Jets hand undefeated New Mission its first loss

Suffering their first loss of the season against Franklin High didn’t seem to shake up the confidence of the East Boston High School basketball team one bit.

The Jets were able to topple undefeated New Mission High School 68-66 last Sunday Night at Emanuel College during a nail bitter that was back in forth all game.

With the win over the Titans the Jets improved to 12-1 on the season.

“This one means a lot,” Jets senior John Flakes told reporters after the game. “We just came off a loss against Franklin and it was a redeem game. They were undefeated and now they’re not. Now we can say we got one on them and they don’t got one on us.

The turning point in the game came when, with only 1:12 left to play, EBHS junior, Jeff Amazan, sank three consecutive free throws to put his team up 63-60.

Them, 37 seconds later, Amazan drained a three to put Eastie up 66-60 with 35 seconds to play.

“I didn’t know if it was going to go in,” said Amazan after the game. “I was just trying to get contact on it and it went in.”

Amazan finished with 11 points.

The Titans were able to put six more points on the board after another two pointer from Eastie made the score 68-60—but it was too little too late.
