After months of anticipation the EBMHL came to a start Tuesday night September 13, 2011. After much speculation on who the front runners would be, 2 teams emerged as possible top guns this season.
Lightning Express, Captained by Dom DiMarzo, looks like a replica of an East Boston Mustangs team seen years ago in the Porazzo Rink. With the likes of DiMarzo, Jeff Arinella, Steve Lagrassa, Frank DiMarzo, Vinny Schettino, and Ralph Guarino all EBYH Alumnus the Mustangs they were not as they throttled Milano’s Deli 8-3 in their season opener.
It was all Lightning Express all game as Milano’s, who was missing some key talent, couldn’t withstand the attack mounted by Captain DiMarzo as he scored 4 goals and added a pair of assists. Steve Lagrassa and Ralph Guarino also pitched in on the effort while getting stellar defense from Brendan Bonito. For Milano’s Deli, Captain Peter Hanlon had a rough night with the outstanding defense mounted by Lightning Express. In other action, Captain Marc Lanzilli made an instant statement to the rest of the league letting them know Danilchuk Auto will be for real this year. Danichuk took on Chiara’s Auto in the battle for Eastie mechanic supremacy at the Porazzo. It was Danilchuk throwin the monkey wrench into Chiara’s Auto’s season opener dismantling them 13-5. Lanzilli registered 5 goals and 2 helpers, while Glen Squilaciotti and Sebatiano Amara pitched in in the winning effort as well. Danilchuk’s defense was stingy throughout the night as Matt Morrissey and Mark Buttiglieri shut them down most of the evening. The Chiara’s Auto offense was supplied by Shawn Smith and Dante Arinella whileDefenseman Sal Santostefano did all he can to keep the speedy Danilchuk Auto off the scoreboard. Pre-season favorite and defending champions, East Boston Yacht Club took to the ice against Royal Roast Beef in what should have been a barn burner as Captain Charlie Daniels of the EBYC faced off against league nemesis Captain Darrell Interbartolo of Royal’s. It was all Daniels in this one as he buried the hat trick and
2 assists to bolster the EBYC over Royal’s 7-3. An outstanding game was turned in by Goalie Chris Grossmann in between the pipes for the EBYC. For Royal’s, it was Interbartolo and Paul Monzione providing their scoring punch.
The following Tuesday it was more of the same from Lightning Express as they pulled off what could be one of the biggest upsets this season, destroying the EBYC 11-1 completely shutting down the leagues leading scorer for the past 2 seasons Charlie Daniels. Dom DiMarzo’s squad showed up primed and ready to go, as they fired away on Grossmann all night. DiMarzo poured in 4 goals and 2 assists while cousin Frank DiMarzo buried a couple biscuits of his own. Goalie Nicky Rossi was in great hands as the Lightning Express displayed shut down defense at its finest, with Jeff Arinella and Brendan Bonito manning the blue line bolstering Lightning Express to a 2-0 start. Joining the 2-0 club was Danilchuk Auto, who battled with Milano’s Deli for 3 periods of up and down hockey eventually coming out on top 9-7. The Danilchuk high powered offense was led by Bill Corcoran who notched 4 goals and adding 3 assists. Marc Lanzilli, Sebastiano Amara, and Glen Squilaciotti provided the rest of the offense while Brendan Gahagan was a pleasant surprise on the blue line. Peter Hanlon and Mike Burri led the way for Milano’s who are off to an 0-2 start to kick the season off. In the nightcap, we saw Royal’s Roast Beef take on Chiara’s Auto in what was a fantastic hockey that unfortunately ended in a tie 3-3. It was the Dante Arinella show for Chiara’s Auto as he scored all 3 of their goals notching the hat trick. For Chiara’s Auto a great game was turned in by their defensemen Sal Santostefano and Stephen Morrill, while Darrell Interbartolo, Rob Bulla, and Paul Rogers shined for Royal’s.
Please come on out for a Tuesday night of hockey action at Porazzo Rink. Games run 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm.
