Boston East Gallery Hosts ‘Beyond Borders’

Boston East Gallery, located at 126 Border Street in Boston East Apartments, has taken down its permanent collection of art to host Beyond Border, an exhibit of painting and mixed media art by members of the East Boston Artists Group (EBAG).

Beyond Border opens Saturday, April 27 and closes Friday, June 14.  The gallery is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will be an opening reception to which the public is invited, in conjunction with EBAG’s participation Boston Design Week, on Saturday, April 27 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the gallery at 126 Border Street. Special weekend hours will be held Saturday, April 27, and Sunday April 28 from noon – 6:00 p.m.

Boston East re-established their existing relationship with the East Boston Artists Group this past November when they served as one of the sponsors of the EBAG event, Harboring Creativity: Launching East Boston Artists from the ICA Watershed at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Boston’s East Boston satellite facility. That event was organized by June Krinsky-Rudder, a co-founder of EBAG, and EBAG artist, Diane Modica. At that time, Boston East’s management also expressed an interest in future collaborations – Beyond Border being the first.

Beyond Border was curated by June Krinsky-Rudder, Kristen Freitas, and Katie Kimbrell and consists of paintings and mixed media art by East Boston Artists Group members: B. Amore, Kristen Audette, Matt Baynes, Collette Brésilla, Jeff Briggs, Brian Burke, Maryellen Cahill, Elsa Campbell, Sandrine Colson, Kristen Freitas, Katie Kimbrell, June Krinsky-Rudder, Charlene Liska, Diane Modica, Maureen O’Connor, David Riley, Joan Ryan, and X Bonnie Woods.

“Boston East has been a wonderful community partner,” said June Krinsky-Rudder. “I reached out to Boston East in January, and they were quite enthusiastic about hosting the artists for our first in-person gathering since before the pandemic, and again in partnering to make this exhibit a reality. The gallery is a perfect showcase for both the art and the neighborhood. We hope to continue our collaborations with Boston East in the future.”
