Logan and the Missing Crown Jewels

Inquisitive Cocker Spaniel, Logan, investigates the disappearance of royal treasures in the juvenile fiction book, “Logan and the Missing Crown Jewels,” written by life-long East Boston resident, Christine Ricci-McNamee, and illustrated by Amy Avery Smith, of Colorado.

“Logan and the Missing Crown Jewels,” published by Leaning Rock Press, was released on August 1, and is the second installment in the Magic Bone Adventure series featuring the tactful and tenacious dog, Logan, as he solves mysteries and bonds with new friends around the world.

Logan is implored by two ravens from the Tower of London to lead the search for the vanished, precious collection. Along with his excitable younger brother, Winston, a curious Cavachon, the siblings travel to Ireland, Scotland, and the Mediterranean, where they meet indigenous animals that graciously aid them in their quest.

“Children are going to learn about former and current colonies and territories, and animals from different countries,” revealed Ricci-McNamee.

“Logan and the Missing Crown Jewels” is dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), who reigned over the United Kingdom for 70 years. The book was inspired by Ricci-McNamee’s trip to London, where she viewed encased crowns, pins, scepters, and other sovereign Crown Jewels.

“I have a fondness for the queen, and wanted to pay tribute to her,” explained Ricci-McNamee. “I respected her and think she is an incredible iconic figure: elegant, regal, and majestic.”

Polite and calm Logan is based on Ricci-McNamee’s first dog; while eager and playful Winston is inspired by her present dog.

“Logan and Winston have different personalities. Winston is affectionate and fun-loving. Logan is more serious,” described Ricci-McNamee. “They’re both loyal and sweet dogs.”

Each morning, Ricci-McNamee and Winston walk around Orient Heights before she begins working at her family business. During the day, Winston and Ricci-McNamee’s 100-year-old father, Lou, keep each other company and nap together. Seven-year-old Winston, whose tail spins like a pinwheel when he is excited, enjoys his squeaky toys.

“Logan and the Missing Crown Jewels” is Ricci-McNamee’s fourth fictional children’s book, and she is planning a third addition to her Magic Bone Adventures. Readers can purchase “Logan and the Missing Crown Jewels” online through Amazon, at the Winthrop Book Depot & Café, Robin’s Nest (Winthrop), and Hudson Booksellers in terminals B and C at Logan International Airport.
