Violent Part One Crime Up 2.5%; Nonviolent Part One Crime Down 6%

Boston Police released the first quarter crime stats for East Boston and while Violent Part One Crime was up 2.5%, a closer look at the stats shows that non-domestic aggravated assaults are the main culprit for the increase.

Part One Crimes are the more serious crimes the Boston Police keep track of and are split between violent and nonviolent Part One Crimes.

When comparing January 1, 2022 through April 24, 2022 with the same time period during the first quarter of 2021 non-domestic aggravated assaults increased 61.5 percent with 13 incidents in the first quarter of 2021 and 21 so far this year.

Domestic aggravated assaults also increased and jumped 20 percent with 15 incidents in the first quarter of 2021 and 18 so far this year.

However, there have been no homicides in Eastie so far this year and there were zero during the first four months of 2021 as well.

Rape or attempted rape is down 50 percent with two incidents in the first quarter of 2021 and one so far this year.

Robbery and attempted robbery is way down so far this year and dropped 90 percent with 10 incidents reported in the first quarter of 2021 and only one reported so far this year.

All in all there were 41 reported violent Part One Crimes in the first four months of 2022, a 2.5 percent increase from the 40 reported during the first four months of 2021.

As for nonviolent Part One Crimes, the overall numbers are down six percent according to the report but commercial burglary and auto theft are up so far this year in the neighborhood.

There were only four commercial burglaries in the first four months of 2021 but that number has jumped 225 percent with 13 reported so far this year.

Auto theft is up 214 percent with seven reported in the first four months of 2021 and 22 reported so far this year.

Residential burglaries are down 85 percent with 26 reported in the first four months of 2021 and only four reported so far this year.

Larcenies from a motor vehicle are down 5 percent and other larcenies are down 16 percent respectively.

Overall there were 187 nonviolent Part One Crimes reported so far this year, down six percent from the 199 reported during the first four months of 2021. As always, if you observe any unusual activity or observe a crime in progress, don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1.
