Eastie Resident Running Boston Marathon to Raise Money for the Pine Street Inn

East Boston resident Kate Stover will be running in the 126th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18 to raise money for the Pine Street Inn.

Stover teaches cycling classes at Turnstyle Cycle in the South End, just down the street from the Pine Street Inn, and has already raised over $10,000 towards a $15,000 goal.

Street Inn.

“I’m honored to be running Boston as my third World Marathon by supporting Pine Street Inn, the largest homeless shelter in Boston,” said Stover. “Pine Street assists the Boston homeless community in moving from the street and shelters to a permanent home. The homeless community in my city is my community. I’m proud to be supporting a worthy cause right in my backyard.”

Pine Street only has five runners running in this year’s Boston Marathon to raise money for the shelter. Stover and the four other runners are expected to raise a combined $50,000 to help create 200 new units of supportive housing for men and women experiencing chronic homelessness.

“This new housing project was delayed due to the pandemic, and I’m thrilled to play an integral role in helping the project move ahead this spring,” said Stover.

While Stover has run in two World Marathons this is her first Boston Marathon.

“Pine Street’s vision of a permanent home and community for everyone has carried me throughout the last several months of training and fundraising,” said Stover. “I’m in awe of the incredible support I’ve received for my training and for this fundraiser. It’s truly the donors who make this all happen. Putting one foot in front of the other is the easy part.”

Pine Street’s President & Executive Director Lyndia Downie said the shelter’s staff and administrators are grateful for Stover’s, and the other runners, efforts.

“We are deeply grateful to Kate Stover and all the marathon runners who are raising funds for Pine Street Inn,” said Downie.  “It means so much to have supporters in the community who are so committed to our work.”
