Local Students Earn Academic Honors

Bruce Honored at 2021 Senior Writing Awards

Various undergraduate students in the Writing, Literature, & Publishing (WLP) department were honored this past spring during the 2021 Senior Writing Awards, or 2021 American Poets College Prize Award winners.

In the Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing (WLP), the symbiotic relationship between writing, publishing, and the study of literature becomes a shared experience of finding one’s voice, refining one’s talent, and gaining the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s evolving literary landscape.

Among those recipients was East Boston native Emma Bruce, who recieved the following award(s):

Distinction in Nonfiction

Bruce is pursuing a degree in Creative Writing BFA and is a member of the Emerson College Class of 2021.

Henriquez Presents Research Showcase

Katherine Henriquez, a Lasell University student from East Boston presented at the University’s Spring Symposium research showcase, “The Invention of Now.”

Henriquez studied various aspects of personality from a psychological perspective and created a resource, presented at Symposium, designed to help others achieve happiness or fulfill a goal in their lives. Henriquez focused on Latinx youth who might be in the process of identity exploration, citing research demonstrating positive results among those with strong ethnic ties and a sense of belonging in their ethnic group.

The Spring Connected Learning Symposium is one of two annual research symposia held at Lasell University. Student presentations provide scholarly insights into a variety of industry topics, and showcase practical skills and career competencies across those industries.
