Friends of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway host ‘Christmas on the Greenway’

Special to the Times-Free Press The Friends of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway hosted “Christmas on the Greenway” on Sunday, December 7th at Bremen Street Park. In addition to the beloved annual luminaria event, this year’s celebration featured a festive holiday performance by Sweet Harmony of Riverside Theater Works in Hyde Park, presented in partnership with the Trustees One Waterfront. The highlight of the day was a special visit from Santa Claus, who delighted children by handing out goody bags filled with treats, including a free ride on the Rose Kennedy Greenway carousel! All activities took place at Massport’s beautifully decorated Bremen Street Park, creating a magical holiday atmosphere for the community. The Friends of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway collaborated with Massport to make the event extra special. Massport hosted a fun ornament-making activity for children, provided sugar cookies, and arranged for Santa to arrive in style on an official Massport Fire Truck- much to the delight of families! To end the evening, Santa boarded an exclusive MBTA Blue Line “Santa Express” train to Maverick Station, where families joined in singing Christmas carols along the way. The Friends of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway extend their heartfelt thanks to Massport, MBTA, Trustees One Waterfront, State Representative Adrian Madaro, East Boston Holiday Light Committee, Gemini Digital, and the Rose Kennedy Greenway for their generous support.
