Edwards, Madaro Re-elected to Two-Year Terms

Staff Report

State Sen. Lydia Edwards and Rep. Adrian Madaro were re-elected to two-year terms in the Nov. 5 general election.

Edwards showed outstanding strength across the district that includes East Boston, winning more than 70 percent of the vote in the 3rd Suffolk District race versus Republican candidate Jeanna Tamas.

“Thank you to the residents of East Boston,” said Edwards. “I am grateful and honored to continue to serve as your state senator. While we may disagree, please know that my heart and mind are always open, and I will continue to grow and listen.”

Edwards also spoke about the passage of Question 2 which will end the MCAS graduation requirement for high school students.

“I was happy we are removing this test as a graduation standard,” said Edwards. “I trust teachers and firmly believe that we can’t summarize a child’s growth, intelligence, or potential with any test.”

Madaro humbly thanked East Boston residents for the tremendous vote he received on Election Day.

“Working on behalf of my neighbors in East Boston is one of my life’s greatest honors,” said Madaro. “I’m grateful to have been re-elected to serve another term and for being entrusted to be your voice on Beacon Hill.”
