Eastie Voters Support Healey and Diehl in Sept. 6 Primary

Like voters across the city and state, Eastie supported gubernatorial front-runners, Democrat Attorney General Maura Healey, and Geoff Diehl, the Republican who will now face her in November, after winning their respective races in the state primary on Sept. 6.

Of 2,685 ballots cast by registered voters in the Democratic gubernatorial race, 2,153 were for Attorney General Healey while her challenger, Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz, only received, 513 votes.

In the Republican gubernatorial race, 258 of 404 registered Eastie voters cast their ballots for Geoff Diehl while 144 Eastie voters voted for his challenger, Chris Doughty, instead.

In the Democratic race for attorney general, 1,695 registered Eastie voters cast their ballots for former City Councilor and one-time Boston mayoral candidate, Andrea Campbell, while Shannon Liss-Riordan, a labor attorney who was a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in the 2020 election, trailed Campbell, trailed with 700 votes.

In the highly charged Democratic race for Suffolk County district attorney, 1,371 registered Eastie voters supported Kevin Hayden, who was appointed to the role by Gov. Charlie Baker after Rachel Rollins stepped down from the seat, while City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo received 1,113 votes.

Voter turnout in Ward 1 for the Sept. 6 Primary was nearly 13 percent, with 3,209 ballots cast, as opposed to the citywide turnout of  19 percent, with 84,434 ballots cast across all the city’s neighborhoods.
