There are few activities for East Boston youth in the summer months that are more superb than the sailing program conducted by the Piers Park Sailing Center. For more than 20 years, this program has had children out on the water learning how to sail.
However, the last few years have been a struggle to make the budget balance. This year, it seemed like the program may have to close because of a lack of funding.
Even though several fundraisers were held, the money raised still fell short.
However, last week the East Boston Project Advisory Committee (PierPac) voted to award the Sailing Center a grant in the amount of $25,000 that will ensure that East Boston children will continue to enjoy a summer of sailing, while also learning constructive life lessons about cooperation and teamwork, rather than hanging out on our streets and possibly getting into trouble.
We know we speak for all of our fellow Eastie residents in expressing a sincere, “Thank you,” to PierPac for its commitment to the children of our community.
