Luis Alvarez

Of East Boston

Luis Alvarez of East Boston passed away peacefully on November 11.

In accordance with the wishes of the family, cremation is private. In honoring Luis’s memory, a memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 19 in The Most Holy Redeemer Church, Maverick Street, (Maverick Square) East Boston at 11 a.m.

Interment of ashes will be in Colombia at a later date.

Adeline Porfido

Of East Boston

Adeline R. (Guidara) Porfido of Orient Heights, East Boston died on November 10.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank D. Porfido; mother of Stephen W. and his wife, Catherine (Ferrante) Porfido and the late Frank J. Porfido; grandmother of Julia, Stephen, Gianna and Christopher; sister of Marie Supino of Peabody, Jeanette Picariello of California, Christine Lauria of Florida, Paul Guidara of Danvers and Arthur Guidara of East Boston.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held from the Magrath Funeral Home, 325 Chelsea St. [at Day Square] East Boston on Thursday, November 17 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church, 45 Brooks St., East Boston at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are today, Wednesday, November 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Lucy Salemme

Liberty Market Corp. retiree, and daily communicant at Immaculate Conception Parish, remained active until the age of 93

A well-attended funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, Nov.12 in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere for Lucy M. (Reppucci) Salemme who passed rather unexpectedly on November 8 in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Her time of death, was just five minutes’ shy of her 94th birthday observance.

Born and raised in East Boston, she was a 1940 graduate of East Boston High School. As a young woman, she entered the work force at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for nearly 10 years as office manager. Later, after her children were settled and married, she went to work, along with three of her sisters, at the former Liberty Market Corp in East Boston. Lucy was the supervisor of the “Food Court” at Liberty for over 20 years. Always known to be “busy,” Lucy joined hands with her only daughter, Evelyn, when she opened her business, “RECEIVABLES MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATES” and took the role as Personal Secretary and Office Manager. She remained most active, till very recently at 93 years, young. A bit of a “fashionista”, she retained her interest in her appearance and style. Her family will certainly experience the loss, however, the memories and “excitement” of her life will do much to ease their pain.

Lucy was widowed in May of 1988, when her beloved husband, Ralph A. Salemme, passed. She was the cherished mother to: Evelyn A. Lumino and her late husband, Joseph R. of West Peabody and Genard “Jerry” Salemme, Senior Aide to Senator Edward Markey and Jerry’s wife, Rachel Welch of Arlington, Virginia. She is the adoring grandmother to Christopher G. Salemme, Nicole M. Kahle and her husband, J. Ryan, “Michael A. & Matthew A. Salemme, all of Arlington, VA. She is also lovingly survived by her great-grand-daughter, Samantha Grace, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was the dear sister of the late, Ann Giglio, Eleanor Santoro, Carmella M. Elliott, Anthony A.”Tom” Repucci, John Repucci, Joseph and Evelvn “Reppucci. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  Lucy was a long-time devotee and daily communicant at ICC for many years.
