East Boston Little League All-Stars play well in District 12 Tournament

Cassaro hurls one-hitter in a win over Somerville

Eastie opened tourney play with a 7-3 victory over Somerville on June 29. C.J. Cassaro pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-hit baseball to lead the way.

In a game played on July 5 versus Medford at Festa Field, Cassaro returned to the mound and allowed only one hit in 4 1/3 innings. Medford scored four unearned runs in the late innings to take a 7-2 decision. Eastie fell to Malden, 8-0, in the next game of the double-elimination tournament.

The Eastie All-Stars are currently competing in the District 12 Jimmy Fund Tournament.

“We’ve participated in the Jimmy Fund Tournament for the past six years,” said Cassaro. “The main goal here is raising money for kids who are battling cancer. This cause hits home for me being a cancer survivor.”

East Boston Little League also has three teams (ages 10-12) competing in the Mayor’s Cup Tournament.
