Eastie to Celebrate Ahead of 4th of July

By John Lynds

While some East Bostonians will head to the Esplanade for the Boston Pops annual Fourth of July concert and fireworks display, many in Eastie will forgo the huge crowds trying to get a good spot for the Pops concert.

Luckily there are a few celebrations here  leading up to Independence Day that will be fun for the entire family.

On Saturday, July 2 Boston Harborfest will host its annual fireworks display in Boston’s Inner Harbor. Various sailors will decorate their boats and light up the Inner Harbor on Saturday followed by the fireworks. Both the boat parade and fireworks can be viewed from Piers Park on Marginal Street in Eastie.

On Sunday, July 3 as part of its Summer Concert Series, Zumix will host a concert at Piers Park as part of the Seaport Festival. Performances will include Smokin’ Joe & The Henchmen as well as performances by Zumix youth.

The day will kick off at 1 p.m. with free sailing followed by field games for kids and then music.

“Zumix is happy to participate in the Seaport Festival, kick off the summer, and celebrate Independence Day in Piers Park on Sunday,” said Zumix Director Madeleine Steczynski. “We invite the community to Join us for free sailing at Piers Park Sailing Center from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by field games, free watermelon, and live music by Eastie’s amazing Smokin’ Joe Cheffro & The Henchmen starting at 3 p.m. This is a free, family-friendly event for all. Bring a picnic and enjoy Eastie at it’s best.”

Zumix will then host music every Sunday in July from 6-8 p.m. during its free summer community concerts in Piers Park.
