We join the East Boston community in congratulating our state representative, Carlo Basile, on his appointment to the esteemed position of deputy chief of staff to incoming Governor Charlie Baker.
Basile has served East Boston residents well during his distinguished seven-year tenure in the House of Representatives. He first served as co-chair of the Joint Committee on Financial Service and later was appointed by Speaker Robert A. DeLeo as chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee. As chair of Veterans Affairs, he co-authored the Valor Act, which provides state funding for wounded veterans returning from combat. Under the Valor Act, the money is used to make home modifications for veterans that sustained debilitating wounds during combat.
Basile will bring the valuable experience of having a first-hand perspective of working families, new immigrants, and veterans to the Baker Administration.
In these days of state and federal budget cuts where often the most vulnerable of our society are forgotten, Carlo Basile will be an advocate for all residents.
We wish Carlo Basile well in his new position and thank him for his outstanding service to East Boston.
