Congratulations Rep. Basile

We congratulate State Representative Carlo Basile on his victory in the Nov. 4 election. East Boston voters gave Rep. Basile a solid victory against a well-known opponent, Celeste Ribeiro Myers.

The fact is that Carlo Basile has been a very effective legislator, working hard in his seven years in office representing the best interests of all East Boston residents.

Basile was a co-author of a veterans’ bill that provided financial support to wounded veterans returning home after serving our country.

He was instrumental in bringing a brand new state-of-the-art library building to Bremen Street in East Boston. That building serves our residents very well and reaffirms that a library is a true treasure for a neighborhood.

More recently, Carlo helped a group of community activists secure funding from Massport to create the neighborhood’s first-ever dog park that will be ready for use in the spring.

Carlo has been a very accessible public official, always showing up at events to support local organizations. His own Thanksgiving Dinner at the Sacred Heart Church has become an annual tradition since taking office in 2007. The dinner provides a Thanksgiving meal to residents in need.

We commend Celeste Ribeiro Myers for running a positive campaign that highlighted the issues in our community. Celeste’s appearance at Carlo Basile’s victory party and offering her personal congratulations to her opponent was a class act and shows that the campaign was not intended to divide the community.
