MBTA Motorcycle Officers Hit on Bennington Street

Police shut down the section of Bennington Street from Saratoga Street to Ashley Street for several hours while police investigated an accident that injured two MBTA motorcycle officers.

Two MBTA motorcycle officers were struck and seriously hurt by a motorist Friday morning on Bennington Street.

The two officers were reportedly heading to the East Boston Kindergarten Parade to escort students through the streets when they were struck.

One officer on the scene said, “they were on their way to a parade”.

Witnesses standing on Bennington near Tuft’s Tobacco said the woman driving the car the hit the two officers was heading north on Bennington near Orient Heights MBTA station when she attempted to make an illegal u-turn to head south.

Witnesses said she hit the officers “pretty hard”.

One witness said that one of the officers landed about 30 feet from his motorcycle.

Police on the scene reported that while one of the officers was pretty shaken up but only had cuts and bruises, the other officer broke a leg and hip. It was reported that he would require surgery for his injuries.

The officers were Lucas Sayers, 37, and Brendan Skerry, 29. Sayers, an 8-year veteran was the officer that will need surgery.

Police said the 60-year-old woman will most likely be cited for the accident and making the illegal u-turn.
