Incumbent Ward I City Councilor Sal LaMattina easily beat challenger and East Boston resident Brian Gannon Tuesday night.
LaMattina received 5081 votes in Eastie to Gannon’s 2381 votes. District wide LaMattina received 10571 votes to Gannon’s 4045 votes and will serve a fourth term as Ward I City Councilor.
On election night at his victory party at Kelley’s Pub in East Boston LaMattina thanked supporters.
“Tonight’s victory shows that the campaign was about more than just one issue,” said LaMattina. “While the casino was a big issue there were many other issues we’ve been working hard on since I was first elected City Councilor. I want to thank all my supporters in East Boston, Charlestown and the North End and allowing me to continue fighting for these great neighborhoods.”
LaMattina said he will continue to fight for cleaner streets, better schools, improved parks, quality housing for families and seniors and a stronger business community.
“We are going to move forward together because our work is not done in these neighborhoods,” said LaMattina. “We are going to work with the new administration to ensure that these neighborhoods still get the recognition and services they deserve.”
