City Councilor Sal LaMattiina easily cruised to the final election and will face Brian Gannon in the November 5 General Election.
LaMattina got 2,943 voted in East Boston and 6,756 voted in District 1, which includes Eastie, the North End and Charlestown .
In Eastie the closest to LaMattina was Gannon with 855 votes. John Ribiero finished third in Eastie with 747 votes.
District wide Gannon got 1,214 votes and Ribiero got 996 votes.
“Wow this is unbelievable,” said LaMattina of the convincing win to go into the final. “It goes to show when you work hard for neighborhood people appreciate it.”
LaMattina said the results show the campaign was about more than the casino issue.
“As you see from results its more than a casino at stake,” he said. “When you represent a District you work to address all the issue my staff and I do that everyday. However, it’s not over yet and I’ll need all your help in November. I’m excited about the opportunity to work with a new mayor and I’m excited to be part of a new Boston.”
