Great Teamwork

State Representative Carlo Basile, Senator Antony Petruccelli and City Councilor Sal LaMattina deserve full credit for preventing a commuters’  nightmare for  Eastie residents.

No one can argue that safety whether for the public transportation system or driving through the tunnels should be a top priority.

However, the original plan from the inner workings of state officials called for the Callahan Tunnel to be shut down for three months beginning in January and the Government Center MBTA Station to be closed for a period of two years starting in a few weeks.

By doing both projects simultaneously as Councilor Sal LaMattina pointed out this plan would have a devastating impact on residents.

These simultaneous projects illustrate the too often operational method of State agencies where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.

We thank our elected officials for being on top of this situation.  But far more important was that they were able to make the common sense change that seemed not to be on the radar of state official. Their action made the lives of many thousands of residents a lot less stressful.
