An East Boston mom was the winner of a health and wellness package at the East Boston YMCA following a citywide contest. Voters selected Elizabeth Jalbert as the winner of the Greater Boston YMCA’s Mother’s Day Relax and Renew contest.

Y members from all over Boston were asked to write in and nominate a special mom in their life over the Mother’s Day weekend. Nominations were posted on the Y’s Facebook page and visitors were asked to “like” their favorite story.

Jalbert won two free months of Y membership, personal training and a nutrition consultation. The contest is just one of the Y’s many member appreciation events and incentives.

“Elizabeth (Jalbert) exemplifies the Y’s commitment to healthy living,” said East Boston Y Executive Director Joey Cuzzi. “Balancing the demands of work, family and a new baby is challenging, but mom’s need to take time out to take care of themselves, too. It sets a good example and sends a message that exercise is important.”

Jalbert’s husband wrote the touching nomination about her commitment to her family and living a healthy life.

“My favorite Mom is my beautiful wife, Liz, and the mother of our 20-month-old daughter, Ciara,” wrote her husband. “We are residents of East Boston and have been members of the Y since we moved to East Boston in 2009. Liz has been the biggest reason why being new parents has been such an amazing experience and Ciara has been the perfect baby. Liz stayed home with Ciara and raised her until she got a new job when Ciara was 8 months old.

He went on to explain that the transition back to work was not easy on anyone in the family, but that Jalbet was a trooper and made it look easy.

“Maintaining her health was very important, and Liz has not missed a beat in her workouts as a new Mom,” he wrote. “She looks amazing and has the energy after work to feed the family and play with Ciara until putting her to bed.”

Jalbert said she credited her many friends and fellow Eastie Y members for supporting her and voting for her story.

“June is great time to try the Y,” said Cuzzi. “The Y is hosting a Group Exercise Open House from June 17-23 and residents can come in and try a class for free.”

With more than 50 free weekly group exercise classes and free childcare while you work out, Cuzzi added that there is something for everyone at the Y.

Free three day passes are also available through the web site www.ymcaboston.org/eastboston.
