Scenes from East Boston Little League

The 2012 East Boston Little League season is trucking along with several minor, major and senior league games being played ach week across Eastie. From Noyes Park to the East Boston Stadium to Festa Field, there has been great excitement and participation this year.

Below are scenes from a recent Major League game between the second place Rays and first place Twins.  The Twins are 5-2 on the season while the Rays are playing even 500 ball at 4-4 on the season.

During this match up, the Twins’ bats and excellent pitching proved too much for the Rays who lost the close match

Former Red Sox, Billy Conigliaro, to throw first pitch on Navigators Opening Night

The North Shore Navigators, member of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, will host former Boston Red Sox Billy Conigliaro on Opening Night, Friday, June 8 at Fraser Field.

Local legend, Billy Conigliaro, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and be available to sign autographs for a short period during the game. Conigliaro played at Swampscott High School before entering Major League Baseball in 1969. He started his career with the Boston Red Sox (1969-1971), followed by the Milwaukee Brewers (1972), and ended with the Oakland Athletics (1973).

With the Red Sox, Conigliaro showed promise totaling 42 doubles, and 29 homeruns in 1970 and 1971. In his most productive year (1971) Conigliaro finished 8th in the American League in doubles, and was 10th in the American League in hit by pitches with 7. Over his career Conigliaro hit .256 with 40 homeruns, and 128 RBI, also getting the chance to play with his older brother Tony Conigliaro in 1969 and 1970.

Billy Conigliaro now works with his wife’s charity as a mentor for local kids who come from low-income, single parent homes.
