Joan Porcelli

East Boston resident

Joan A. Porcelli died unexpectedly in East Boston on March 6.She was the beloved daughter of the late Elizabeth (DePalma) and Joseph Porcelli; sister of the late Gloria McLaughlin, Lorraine DiGiorgio and John Porcelli. She is survived by her niece, Elizabeth Cullity and her husband, Joseph of Hudson, NH.A Memorial Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph-St. Lazarus Church.

Emily Grande

Of Plymouth, formerly of East Boston

Emily (D’Agostino) Grande of Plymouth, formerly of East Boston, died on March 16. She was 97 years old.

Born in Boston on February 7, 1915, a daughter of the late Antonio and Lena (Anicone) D’Agostino, she was educated in the Boston school and worked in the Cafeteria at John Hancock Insurance Co.

She was the beloved wife of the late Christie Grande; loving mother of Christie Grande, Jr. of Marshfield and Eileen Milian of Orlando, Florida; loving sister of Josephine Masiello of Stoneham, Tessie Giordano of Salem, N.H., Mufalda Franko of Lexington and the late Angelo D’Agostino and Jennie Raffaele; cherished grandmother of Michael, Carlos, Cory and the late Marissa and Christie III and great grandmother of Andrew, Amanda, Ryan, Vincent and Jacob.

Her Funeral will be held from the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth today, Wednesday,  at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Peter’s Church, Plymouth at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth. Mary ‘Patty’ Lennon

East Boston resident

Mary P. “Patty” (Brazil) Lennon of East Boston died on March 15.

She was the beloved wife of the late John F Lennon; devoted mother of Mary P. Coombs of Arizona, Eileen D. Fagone of Tewksbury, Ann Marie Capone and her husband, Michael of Swampscott, John R. Lennon and his wife, Robin of Brockton, Christine F. Walden and her husband, Keith of Tewksbury and Jacqueline L. Lennon of Medway. She was the dear sister of four brothers and six sisters and was pre deceased by three brothers and one sister. She was the cherished grandmother of 23 grandchildren, many adored great grandchildren and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Robert Carroll

Of Brewster, formerly of East Boston

Robert F. Carroll of Brewster, formerly of East Boston, died on March 16. He was 94 years old.

He was the husband of the late Rose (Matranga) Carroll; devoted father of Barbara Wineski of Harwich, Maureen Rhodes of Mashpee, Jeanne M. Leighton of Leominister and the late Robert M. Carroll; brother of Sarah Clark of Hanover and Irene Hood of East Boston.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors was held at the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne.

Jorgen ‘Jay’ Jorgensen

35 year employee of The River House

Jorgen P. “Jay” Jorgensen of East Boston died on March 15.

A 35 year employee of The River House on Beacon Hill, he was the beloved husband of Emily (Iannuzzi); father of Erik of East Boston and Lisa of Revere and grandfather of Michael.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, March 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Magrath Funeral Home, 325 Chelsea St. [at Day Square] East Boston. Relatives and friends are invited. A Memorial Service will begin at 6 p.m.

James Henry Donovan

Attorney

James Henry Donovan of Melrose died at the Sudbury Pines Extended Care Facility on March 13. He was 81 years old.

Mr. Donovan was born in East Boston on September 10, 1930 to the late Timothy and Susan (Bradley) Donovan. He was raised in East Boston and graduated from Boston College High School, Boston College and Boston College Law School. He entered the US Navy on August 15, 1953 and served his country proudly during the Korean War being discharged as an LTJG on July 27, 1955. After his discharge from the US Navy, Mr. Donovan started the law practice of James H. Donovan, Attorney at Law, which he ran for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 72.

He was a resident of Melrose for more than 50 years, a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, a former member of the Melrose Kiwanis Club and Incarnation Church in Melrose. He was a longtime blood donor for the American Red Cross and an avid reader who enjoyed books about World War II.

He was the loving father of Neil J. Donovan and his wife, Kari of North Carolina, Susan D. Lynch and her husband, Richard of Sudbury, Thomas R. Donovan of Virginia and Frances M. Donovan and her husband, Mike Okimoto of California; brother of Timothy F. Donovan and his wife, Pat of Quincy; grandfather of Haley, Meaghan, Brian, James, Stephen, Hope, Sean and Lauren and the former husband of Nancy (Donohue) Donovan.

Funeral arrangements were by the Gately Funeral Home, Melrose. Burial with military honors was in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Santo ‘Sonny’ Lazzaro

Of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

Santo M. “Sonny” Lazzaro of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died on March 19.

A US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was the loving brother of Mary Zappulla of Winthrop, Raymond Lazzaro of Swampscott and the late Andrew and Michael Lazzaro and Lena Stellabotta. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be in the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga St. (Orient Heights) East Boston today, Wednesday morning,  from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of his life in St. John the Evangalist Church, Winthrop Street, Winthrop at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Beatrice Flanagan

American Mutual Insurance Co. Retiree

Beatrice W. “Auntie Bea” Flanagan of Malden, formerly of East Boston, Medford and Somerville, died on March 9. She was 91 years old.

A graduate of Fr. Fitton High School, prior to her retirement, she worked for many years at American Mutual Insurance Co. in Wakefield.

She was born in East Boston on June 2, 1920, the beloved daughter of the late Nicholas and Delia (Costello) Flanagan; devoted sister of Joseph Flanagan and his late wife, Irene of Longmeadow, MA, Catherine Douglass and her late husband, John of Winthrop, and the late Alice Fitzpatrick and her late husband, Frank “Uncle Fitzie.” She was loved and cherished by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and a recent great grand nephew.
