Patricia Dente

Patricia M. (Powers) Dente of East Boston died on November 13.

The devoted wife of 58 years of Frank N, Dente, she was the beloved mother of Frank J. and his wife, Lois of Revere, David and his wife, Lisa of Wakefield, Mary Messina and her husband, Anthony of Danvers and Erica Dente of the North End of Boston; dear sister of Margaret Montgomery of Vermont, Tom Powers of Virginia, Alice DeSimone of Chelsea, Angela “Cora” Webster and Jimmy Powers, both of Malden, Rita Capezzuto of East Boston and the late Ellen “Ella” Hayes; cherished grandmother of Anthony, Taylor and Kelsey Messina and Diandrea Dente. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held from the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home on Thursday, November 17 at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of her life in Sacred Heart Church, Brooks Street, East Boston at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Camille Raia of Beachmont Revere died on November 13.

The beloved wife of the late Matthew, she was the devoted mother of Maria Demopoulis of Boston and Lucille Raia of Florida, loving grandmother of Mathew McGilvery of Beachmont as well as seven other grandchildren.

Carlos L. Frias of Saugus, formerly of East Boston and St. Michael, Azores, died on November 10.

The beloved husband of Maria E. (Brum), he was the father of Joseph Coelho, John Frias and Emily Frias; brother of the late Eduardo M. Coelho and grandfather of Jane Coelho.

Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden with arrangements entrusted to the Magrath Funeral Home, East Boston.

Theresa Palazzolo

Orient Heights resident

Theresa C. (Faretra) Palazzolo of Orient Heights East Boston died on November 9.

She was the beloved wife of the late Stephen W. Palazzolo; mother of Stephen W. Palazzolo, Jr. and his wife, Valerie (Carino) of North Reading and the late Paula Gravallese and her surviving husband, Richard Gravallese of East Boston; grandmother of Stephanie A. Raftery and her husband, Michael of Middleton, Alycia T. Gravallese of East Boston, Stephen W. Palazzolo III and his fiancée, Kelley Donoghue and Rachel A. Palazzolo, all of North Reading; great-grandmother of Stephen and Ryan Raftery; sister of Lillian Marsilia of East Boston, Edith Woodard of Salem and the late Jean DeGregorio, Thomas, Alfonse and Carmen Faretra. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Magrath Funeral Home, East Boston. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mary Ann Saija

Of Sharon, formerly of East Boston

Mary Ann (Giansiracusa) Saija of Sharon, formerly of Stoneham and East Boston, died on November 12. She was 93 years old.

An accomplished North Shore artist, she was the beloved wife of the late Michael A. Saija; loving mother of Michael Saija of Sharon, Stephen Saija of Wakefield and Paul Saija of Presque Isle, ME; sister of Frank Freni of Milford and the late Louis Freni and Pauline Freni and is also survived by two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Rocco Flamingo of East Boston died suddenly on November 9. He was 55 years old.

He was the beloved husband of Rita (Devaney) Flamingo; devoted father of Rocco Jr, Taressa, Anthony Flamingo and Jennifer Baldassare; dear stepfather of Nicole, Michael and Tiffaney Devaney; cherished brother of Linda Doucette, Emily Willis, Judy Morgan, Marylou Hinkley, Corrina and Lena Flamingo. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren.

Elena (Masciulli) Pepe of East Boston died at home on November 10. She was in her 95th year.

She was the devoted wife of Vincent A. “Sully” Pepe with whom she shared 69 years of marriage; cherished daughter of the late Luciano and Lucia (Lozzi) Masciulli; loving mother of Marie Pepe-Long and her late husband, Howie of East Boston, Vincent A. Pepe and his wife, Kathleyne of Melrose, Denise Morelli and her husband, Louis of Salem NH and Darlene Giardina and her husband, Police Sgt. James Giardina of Peabody; adored grandmother of Attorney Nicole Giardina, Boston Police Officer James Giardina Jr. and his wife, Rosalie, Anthony and Jeffrey Giardina, Lauren and Elena Pepe and Nicholas and Leah Morelli and her great grandchildren Derek, Dylan and Sofia. She was the dear sister of the late James, Nunzio, Ralph Masciulli, Isabella Cuzzi and Margret Umbro.

She was the devoted mother of Kelly A. Gifford of Salem; dear sister of the late Margaret Eagen and her twin, Paul Brown; adored grandmother of Logan Jakubajtys of Boston and Eavan Jakubajtys of Salem; former wife of John H. Gifford of Boston and is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

Robert Schipani of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died on November 8.

He was the cherished son of the late Thomas and Marie Angela (Sestito) Schipani; loving brother of Anthony and his wife, Diane of East Boston, Elizabeth McCarthy and Leonora Schipani, both of Revere, Marie Borowski and her husband, Bruce of Florida and the late Theresa Grifoni, Thomas and Donald Schipani; adored uncle of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews.

Mary (Beatrice) Giangregorio of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on November 9.

A member of Mt. Carmel Confraternity of Christian Mothers, she was the beloved wife of Arthur Giangregorio with whom she shared 70 years of marriage; loving mother of Lawrence Giangregorio and his wife, Patricia of Peabody, Mary Ann Giangregorio and Nancy Doyle and her husband, Steven, all of Revere; dear sister of Rose Scanzillo of Billerica, Antonetta Giordano of Revere and the late Lucy Vella, Helen Montanino, Louise Barrasso and John Beatrice; cherished grandmother of Michele Bua, Kristen Tremblay, Jillian and Mathew Doyle and she also leaves four great grandchildren.

Edith Gugino

Retired waitress

Edith Gugino of Summit Avenue, Winthrop died peacefully on November 4 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. She was 99 years old.

Born in Ontario, Canada, she was the beloved daughter of the late Amelia and Pasquale Capatosto. She was a resident of Lewiston, New York for many years and moved to Winthrop several years ago to live with her son. She was employed as a waitress for years before her retirement.

She was the wife of 73 years of the late Joseph and is survived by two sons; Anthony J. Gugino and his wife, Mary E. of Venice, Florido and Laverne B. Gugino of Winthrop; the dear sister of Celia Capatosto of Niagra Falls, Ontario and the loving grandmother of Joseph A. Gugino and his wife, Anita L. of Charlotte, FL, Steven A. Gugino and his wife, Chantale of Niagra Falls, New York, Michelle Sorio and her husband, Marco of Pound Ridge, New York and David Gugino of Houston, Texas; great grandmother of Nicolina, Teressa and Joseph Gugino of Florida, Tyler and Connor Gugino of Niagra Falls, NY and Bianca Sorio of Pound Ridge, NY.

Funeral services were conducted from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop on November 7. Rev. Mark J.T. David Powers

Lynn Hospital employee, master electrician

David J. Powers of Saugus, formerly of East Boston, died on November 7. He was 74 years old.

A US Air Force veteran, he was a graduate of Northeastern University, a Master Electrician and a long time Biomedical Tech at Lynn Hospital. He was a lifetime member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club.

He was the beloved husband of Debra A (French) Powers; loving son of the late David and Anna (DiNapoli) Power; devoted father of David Powers of Salem, Sheila Gerard of Middleton, Dennis Tarr of Wenham, William Powers of Florida, Michael Powers of Somerville, Nicole Ann Powers, Joseph and Daniel Power, all of Saugus and the late Theresa Powers; dear brother of Frank Powers of Medford and the late Richard Powers, cherished grandfather of 15 grandchildren, one great granddaughter and many fond nieces and nephews.

Shirley Ryder

Verizon retiree

Shirley M. (Glynn) Ryder of Rowley, formerly of East Boston, died on November 2. She was in her 97th year,

Mrs. Ryder was born in Boston and came to live in East Boston in 1920, where she lived until 1999 when she moved in with her daughter, Ann T. McKenney of Rowley.

She began working for N.E. Tel & Tel (Verizon) back in the 1950s and retired in 1983 with more than 30 years of service, rising to the ranks of managerial and supervisory positions in the company.

She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the American Legion Post Ladies’ Auxiliary of San Diego, CA and a a devotee of the former St. Mary-Star of the Sea Parish Community of East Boston. She and her late husband, Albert F. Ryder were most active in the parish and served on many committees and fundraisers there. During her 12 year residency in Rowley, she was a member of the Friends of the Rowley Council on Aging.

She was the wife of the late Albert F. Ryder; devoted mother of Jean E. Jensen and her husband, Ret. Navy CPO Walter Jensen of San Diego, CA, Ann T. McKenney and her husband, James L. of Rowley, Mary K. McDonough and her husband, Paul of Canton, Margaret S. Ryder and her companion, Dennis Pacheo of Woburn and the late Frances M. Roderick; dear sister of Mary Donovan of Milton, Frances Dunford of Raynham and the late Walter, Loretta and John Glynn; cherished grandmother of Atty. James A. McKenney and his wife, Atty. Victoria McKenney of Arlington, VA, David Jensen of San Diego, CA, Army Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Jensen and his wife, Nicole of Germany, Michael Jensen and his wife, Vinit of Chula Vista, CA, Aileen McDonough of Melbourne, FL, Erin McDonough of San Francisco, CA, Stephen Fagone and his wife, Julie of Las Vegas, NV and Brian Fagone of Washington, DC. She is also lovingly survived by eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
