An East Boston man has been arrested and charged in connection with last week’s daylight stabbing in the Bremen Street Park.
Carlos Velasquez, 18, of East Boston was arrested this week by Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to Troop F.
State Police Sgt. Rick Galeazzi and Troopers John Hubbard, John Morris and Francis Glasheen went to an apartment at 85 Brooks St. where Velasquez lived. Upon arrival, the Troopers were told by the defendant’s mother that Velasquez was not there – a claim that immediately proved false when Trooper Hubbard saw the defendant climb out of the apartment’s kitchen window.
The Troopers chased Velasquez on foot to Paris Street where they found him hiding in a doorway of a house and took him into custody. Velasquez was transported to the State Police Barracks at Logan Airport where he was booked on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
He was arraigned today in East Boston District Court.
State Police allege that Velasquez was one of two men who chased two 18-year-old friends last Monday afternoon near the East Boston YMCA at the Bremen Street Park.
One of the victims tried to fend off the assailants but was stabbed in the chest with a folding knife. The suspects then ran off, and the victim was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The investigation by Troopers in the hours and days following the stabbing led to their identification of Velasquez as one of the assailants.
The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, and State Police are seeking the other assailant.
No further information is being released about that suspect at this time.
