It was truly Judgment Day for the Yawkey League Knights of East Boston! Fireballer Sean Hannon (2-0), pitched a complete game, no-hitter on Saturday, May 21 against the Medford Maddogs at Playstead Park. Hannon was sharp from the start going perfect through three innings. A walk in the fourth blew Hannon’s bid for a perfect game, but Hannon only got stronger with each pitch thereafter. Two Maddog runners reached second base but never threatened beyond that. Hannon threw 74 pitches with seven strikeouts, one base on balls, and one error, and faced two Maddog batters over the minimum.
Geoff Harris started the Knight Ä’s rally with a double, scoring catcher Juan Rosario in the fourth inning. Knights’ star Rosario added to his RBI total knocking in a fifth inning run to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. Rosario now leads the Yawkey League with five RBIs after only two games played. Final score: Knights 3 and Maddogs 0.
On Monday, May 23, the Knights opened up at home against the Brighton Braves and stormed past them to win 10 to 1. The Knights took an early lead scraping together a couple of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2 to 0 lead. Knight’s starter Branden Eaton was in control from the start striking out 10 Braves in five innings. Eaton hurled his way through the first 3 and 2/3 innings not allowing a hit and running the Knight’s hitless inning streak to 13 and 1/3 innings. The Knights exploded for seven runs in the third inning on three homeruns including a Grand Slam by Ace DiNapoli. The Knights hit four homeruns (Dowd 2, Harris, and DiNapoli) in all, capped by a solo shot in the seventh from Chris Dowd. Branden Eaton (1-0) earns his first Knights’ victory allowing only 2 hits and 1ER though 5 strong innings before giving way to Kenny Layton who finished the game for the Knights.
Next up for the Knights on Tuesday May 31 at Chelsea High School vs. the Revere Rockies at 8.
