Joseph Gerald Deneumoustier

Lechmere Sales retiree, long-time member of the Piers Pac Association,  the East Boston Land Use Council and other civic and senior groups

Joseph Gerald (Jerry) Deneumoustier of East Boston passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, with his family by his side at Massachusetts General Hospital under the care of the ER and the Palliative Team. He was 91 years old. The family is very grateful for the compassionate and empathetic care provided by the entire staff, as well as the staff at the Katzman Center for Living.

Born in Inverness, Nova Scotia, Jerry was the youngest son of the late Charles Modeste and Alice (Doucet) Deneumoustier and brother of the late John (Jackie) Deneumoustier. Although he lived in East Boston for most of his life, Jerry loved his little hometown of Inverness, Nova Scotia and would stay in contact with his family and friends there and visit as much as he was able to, especially in the earlier years. He was very close to his Uncle Willie Joe Doucet who was a father figure to him as his father died when he was only two years old.

After immigrating to the United States in 1956 and becoming a citizen, he started his lifelong career at Lechmere Sales which lasted 40 years until retirement. It would be at Lechmere, at a company party, where he would meet the love of his life, Marie. Jerry was the devoted husband to the late Marie (DiStasio) for 58 years. He made his home in East Boston and had three children, Darlene Montgomery and her husband, George of Andover, Colette Deneumoustier and her husband, Tony of East Boston and Monique who died at birth. He was the very proud Papa of three grandchildren, Sean Montgomery (Yaina), Devon Previte (Johnny) and Anna Montgomery (Chase). He also adored his three great grandchildren: Alice, Adrian and Carson. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and a friend to many.

Jerry was a kind, generous and loving man who also loved his Church and community of East Boston. He was a faithful parishioner at the Lady of Assumption and most recently the Sacred Heart Church. He was a long-time member of the Piers Pac Association, as well as the East Boston Land Use Council and other civic and senior groups. Outside of his Church and community involvement, Jerry found joy in reading, sports (Red Sox and Bruins), bowling and animals. He would often speak about his childhood dog, Skippy and would refer to Skippy as his first love. After Skippy, many beloved cats and dogs found their way to Jerry’s home throughout his life.

Those who knew Jerry will remember him for the twinkle in his eye, his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his deep- rooted faith in Jesus and his penchant for Budweiser. He had the rare gift of making others laugh and loved to tell funny stories. His Canadian accent never faded, even after all his years of living in East Boston.

Family and friends honored Jerry’s life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, East Boston, on Tuesday, September 30th before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church in East Boston for a funeral mass. Services concluded with Jerry being laid to rest at Holy Cross Mausoleum with his beloved wife, Marie. May they rest in peace.
