William L. Tanner

Retired City of Boston Information Systems Analyst

 William L.  Tanner of East Boston passed peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by family on May 22, 2025.

The beloved husband of Sandra J. (Dever) Tanner, he was the loving father of Stephanie DiCenso and her husband, David of East Boston, Christopher Tanner and his wife, Sarah of Peabody, Jennifer Dorato and her husband, Robert of Groveland and Michael Tanner and his fiancee, Leslie Montalto of Londonderry, NH; brother of Patricia and her husband, Anthony “Buster” Romano of Plymouth, Virginia and her husband, Nicholas Atkinson of Florida, Carole Tracia of East Boston and her late husband, William “Sonny” Tracia and. Dianne and her husband, Richard Petrucelli of Reading; grandfather of John, David and Alexandria DeCenso, Anthony “AJ”, Adrianna and Ava Tanner, Maggie, Jackson and Aidan Dorato and Brady Tanner. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Giovanni and Anastasia and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his  Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church, 45 Brooks St., East Boston today, Wednesday, May 28 at 10 a.m.. Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery at 1:45 PM.

Bill was a US Army veteran, Vietnam Era, late retired Information Systems Analyst for the City of Boston. He was born and raised in East Boston and attended local schools before joining the Army.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Patricia A. Powers

Community activist who held seats on several East Boston/Boston boards

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, May 27 in the Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals for Patricia A. (Giarle) Powers, who died on Wednesday, May 21st at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston following a stroke. She was 83 years old. Patricia (Patti) was born on August 20, 1941, in Boston to her late parents, Louis and Loretta (Cosco) Giarle. She was one of five children raised in East Boston. Patti attended Girls Trade School of Boston where she perfected her art for sewing. A lifelong resident of East Boston, Patti worked for the Boston Police Department as a crossing guard when her children were young. Since 1985, Patti also held a Neighborhood Sector seat of the Board of Directors of ABCD representing the East Boston area on the East Boston Area Planning Action Council (APAC) Advisory Board and as a member of the Elder Service and the Neighborhood Programs/Planning & Evaluation (NPPE). She was the devoted and loving mother of the late Barry A. Powers and the late Stephanie L. Powers and the cherished grandmother of Charles Zuffante, IV; the dear sister of Linda Greco, and her late husband. Phil, Lori Silva and her husband, Anthony, Gary Giarle and the late Richard L. Giarle. Patti is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews who, were much loved and cherished. She remained extremely close with her family and had many friends. Patti was known for being fun, loving and kind. Patti also had many cherished friends and extended family.
