Football practice got underway on Friday, August 25 at Sartori Stadium and continued all last week as the East Boston High School football team gets ready for the new season. John Parziale leads the Jets, beginning his fourteenth season and a record of 73-60. The team is small in numbers this year but includes ten seniors although more boys may join the team as the school year begins. As we go to press this week, the Jets will play a scrimmage game in Winthrop on Wednesday and in Hull on Saturday. Captains thus far are seniors Anthony Wilks and Jakih Sanders
The Jets had a disappointing season last year ending at 2-8. The two wins occurred with Minuteman at home on November 4 by a score of 48-18 and on Thanksgiving Day pummeling South Boston 48-0 at White Stadium.
Game one is this Friday evening, September 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Sartori Stadium. The Jets will take on the Boston Latin Wolfpack. Last year, Boston Latin ended at 4-6. The 105th Thanksgiving Day game with South Boston is planned for Thursday, November 23 at White Stadium at 9:30 a.m.
Its year eight for an MIAA approved play-off system. Schedules are set for September and October. Games in November will be determined by a point system in which Eastern Massachusetts and Central Massachusetts schools will be split into two groups: play-off teams and non-qualifiers. The new system began in 2013.
